Matchmaking & Connectivity: this covers a number of issues related to co-op play, including bugs with joining games in-progress and problems.
Ubisoft is scrambling to fix a long list of game-breaking bugs in Assassin’s Creed: Unity , including one that replaces characters’ faces with something out of a horror film. Since the game launched on Tuesday, players have flooded Ubisoft’s forums, social media accounts and product pages with complaints. Frame rate issues and crashes abound on both the PC and console versions, and problems with Ubisoft’s servers prevented players from enjoying the game’s online features at launch.
But the strangest problems of all involve characters taking on a ghoulish appearance. On the official Assassin’s Creed blog , Ubisoft claims to have fixed some issues in a Day 1 update, but a laundry list of problems remain. An upcoming patch will address issues with Arno the main character falling through the ground and getting caught inside of hay carts, along with co-op session crashes and delays in reaching the main menu.
Ubisoft hasn’t given a timeline for any of these fixes. Strangely, a community manager on Ubisoft’s forums has singled out AMD CPU and GPU configurations as causing graphics performance issues, even as users of Nvidia graphics cards have experienced plenty of their own problems. The entire launch is a mess on PCs and consoles alike, and likely won’t be fixed for some time, so calling out AMD in particular doesn’t make much sense. Why this matters: Ubisoft has joined the unfortunate trend of publishers launching games that simply aren’t ready for primetime.
Meanwhile, publishers continue to sweeten the pre-order pot with elaborate bonuses , encouraging players to lock themselves in regardless of the game’s quality at launch.
Ubisoft apologizes for ‘Assassin’s Creed: Unity’ issues
The launch of Assassin’s Creed Unity has been less than ideal for Ubisoft. Overall, the game has been plagued with a variety of errors , including some major problems with frame rate, random crashes, and bizarre graphical and collision glitches. As such, the game has been met with a less-than-ideal reception by a number of critics. Over on the Ubisoft Forums , there is a post listing all current known problems with the title, across all platforms, as well as details of any fixes or any workarounds that players can use.
Framerate problems can be reduced by disconnecting from the internet in single player mode, leaving no mention of how to fix this in multiplayer. There is some good news, though.
Patch 4 for Assassin’s Creed Unity is coming this Monday, will fix framerate along with fixing online matchmaking and connectivity issues.
According to Ubisoft, some players on Microsoft’s console experienced an issue that replaced the entire 40 GB game in the download process, instead of just implementing the 6. The latest patch is aimed at addressing the gameplay, stability, and online matchmaking problems. In order to enhance Assassin’s Creed Unity’s frame rate issues, Ubisoft also replaced and updated portions of the Paris city map where related issues were occurring.
Ubisoft said these fixes are the main reason for the size of the patch, with portions of the download replacing existing files. Patch 4 has been showing promise — frame rate performance has appeared better on both Xbox One and PS4, although the latter is showing slightly better results with the update. In crowded scenes with “hundreds of NPCs,” Assassin’s Creed Unity still experiences frame rate drops, but overall, when the engine isn’t particularly strained, Digital Foundry saw a fps increase in performance.
Patch 4 doesn’t help the game achieve the “locked 30 fps” seen in Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, but it has helped both Microsoft and Sony’s consoles. New User posted their first comment. Log in. Esports, Gaming and Pop Culture News.

FIXED Co-op Matchmaking Connection Fails
One of the elements of Assassin’s Creed Unity that I found so odd was the companion app that came along with it. The “Assassin’s Creed Inc” mission system – wherein you recruit and send off fellow assassins on missions – had been entirely relegated to this companion app and completing these missions unlocked chests in the main game to get new equipment or money.
Hopefully you didn’t spend too much time with that app because all of those chests are now unlocked.

The release of barely functional games is not something to be taken lightly or excused, but in the case of Unity, the backlash may have scared players away from what eventually became a decent game. After playing a few missions, I decided to wait until the dust settled before diving in — but that took so long that I just moved on to other games. Plus, I had already gotten my AC fix for the year thanks to Rogue. Bugs The most high-profile issue with Unity was the array of glitches and bugs.
From characters with missing faces to cutscene-interrupting pedestrians , these errors are distracting at best, and game-breaking at worst. Some of the object collision is weird sometimes, and the physics can act up, but these are well within the expected range in terms of severity and frequency. Crashes Unity crashed on me once in my first two hours.
In the months following release, the game received five different patches addressing various issues, and they apparently did their job. However, some of the loading screens are so long that I was afraid the game had crashed…so that problem was never fully addressed. Locked Chests This one is a big deal. These blue and gold respectively chests would appear on the map to tempt or taunt completionists, containing lots of money and cool alternate costumes.
With the last major patch to Unity, these chests can all just be opened with the press of a button, with no outside effort required. This flaw has clearly been addressed to some degree. It’s still not ideal, but it doesn’t render the game unplayable.

Ubisoft has released a new Assassin’s Creed Unity patch that unlocks the rewards previously tied to the game’s companion app and Initiates web service. But progression took time, and many players objected to content in the main game being locked away in this manner. The new patch also removes the need to log into Ubisoft’s Initiates web service, which was designed to track your progress through the entire Assassin’s Creed series.
As you levelled up, the gold chests dotted over the main Unity map would unlock, revealing outfits from the series’ other main protagonists, as well as more in-game money. In reality, Initiates suffered major connection problems from the game’s launch and failed to track user progress correctly. Ubisoft pulled the service down for maintenance shortly before Christmas and gold chests have been unlockable ever since.
